Dutch singer-songwriter Annie Lime recently released single “When the swifts fly high” which is the first song released from her upcoming EP, Fate and Coincidence.
It’s a bright-minded and shimmering indie rock and pop blend that has a lush and dreamy nature. While there is a summerish hue and vibrant nature to the track, there is a lingering sense of emotional heft and melancholy that runs deep and sincere.
Speaking on the track, Lime adds:
This song is about two summers reflecting – as two mirrors that are diametrically opposed. The first is the summer before the anticipated death of my father, the second is the summer after. It is about me swimming on my back, looking at the swifts in the blue sky, thinking about how it would be not having him around anymore, and then the next summer – after he’d passed – reflecting on (some of) the things I miss about him.
My father taught me that when the swifts fly high, the weather will be good. This is due to air pressure changes that cause little insects to fly high, the swifts then follow to eat them 😉
