Portland-natives Local Teen returned in December with their new album, Culo Sucio, which features track like the epicly titled “I Am the Warm Little Center the Yakubian Yeex of This World Is Gathered Around.”

Sitting at nearly 7-1/2 minutes, it takes its time building up its sonic arsenal with a slow burn post-punk build up with an uneasy feeling in the air. Just when you think you have the song figured out, it pivots to a gentler fade out that has a vibrant colorful approach that sends it home in surprising and even more epic fashion that has shades of Dan Deacon.

Or as they describe it:

This started out a punk song that I abandoned because it was so boring. I went back to see if it could be saved a few years later and solo’d the bass and loved it’s sound. I started chopping it up and loved the hypnotic chromatic vibe that came out. I whipped out an eBow and slide and started improving on my guitar and some how captured the cello sound I have since been unable to get again. I’ve honestly spent hours trying. It was just some magic I captured that day. The song started to take shape and told me what it wanted to be. It ended up coming together quite quickly. The end section ended up taking months to figure out as I chopped up and manually pitched all those vocal arps to get the sound I wanted which was a transition from creepy to hopefully but still a little sad.
