Earlier this month English indie band Witching Waves released their new album, Streams and Waterways, which was released via Specialist Subject Record.
“Vessel” was the lead single and a standout off the record, a garage rock romp that has an instant hold on the listener with some serious bite. There are traces of classic 90s indie rock as well as contemporaries like The Joy Formidable and The Subways in its punk spirit and male/female vocals.
The band’s Mark Jasper adds about the song:
“We wrote Vessel before Emma was pregnant. I remember it was the hottest day of the year and we were trying so hard to write something. We’d already written two or three songs that weekend, they were duds and we knew it. Last thing on the Sunday, Emma sang the beginning lines, and we wrote the whole thing, and ditched the other songs. It’s a bit eerie looking back, the song is about identity and nothing could have changed more in the months that followed.”
Spin “Vessel” now below and find the entire album available to stream and buy at Bandcamp.
