Jaws of Love., the project of Local Natices’ Kelcey Ayer, has released a cover of Deftones’ “Change (In The House Of Flies)”. He’s released a live take music video and performance that was recorded with his frequent Jaws of Love-collaborator Danny Reisch (Sun June, Shearwater, Other Lives).
The cover is a part of a new album entitled SLSL: Naked out Nov 15, comprised of stripped-back versions of songs off of Ayer’s sophomore album Second Life and the Patricia EP. While a cover of Deftones wasn’t exactly my first guess from Jaws of Love., Ayer makes it completely his own and even has some elements of Thom Yorke and Radiohead in it.
Speaking on the cover, Ayer adds:
“Deftones was a huge band for me growing up, especially their 3rd album White Pony. I remember being blown away by Change, Digital Bath, Knife Prty, and so many others, and it’s a testament to their vision and talent that it stands up to this day. Second Life took a ton of influence from WP, particularly Terry Date’s ethereal, beautiful vocal production. So while I was recording these stripped-down versions of my most recent songs, I thought it was a great chance to show my love for Deftones. Change felt like the obvious choice since it’s incredible, but also has one of the greatest harmonies in nu-metal. I had to do it.”
