Gold Lake, the Brooklyn-based dream pop duo of Carlos Del Amo and Lua Rios, will return with their new album, Weightless, on October 20th, which was co-produced by Aaron Dessner of the National and Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear.

You can hear the traces of both of their production from their respective bands on the new single, “North Of Something”, a song that reflects “the struggle with the idea of not being able to fully match an idealistic yet necessary view on how we would like to conduct ourselves in this crumbling world to help save it.”

The song takes a smart artful route of both dream pop, indie rock and a blend of chamber-esque folk, with some refined instrumentation and smart production. It’s a haunted and emotional listen, one that marks the tough road and journey to get to the point of release of their first album in nine years. As a press release notes:

They did not intend to have a 9 year gap between releases but Carlos lost his sister unexpectedly, and then himself had a recurrence of a brain tumor after having surgery to remove it years prior. While these tragedies greatly inform Weightless, the end result is a dreamy, shimmering record that responds to the world’s darkness with an inimitable insistence on the beauty of life.
