Los Angeles-based band The Ouija Boards recently returned with their single “Leafy Greens” a song inspired by the “agonizing distance of summer love – The anticipation of seeing that special person again while the leaves change outside your classroom window.”

It captures that feeling in a lovely 80s new wave tone that is just drenched in melancholy and longing. Crisp guitar work and a lush vocal performance combine into something that feels like a mix of The Cure, The Smiths, and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.

Speaking on the track the band’s Keith Cooper says:

“This song is about the summertime crush or friends that you had so much fun with — The ones you were daydreaming about — while you’re back at school in the cold, boring winter.”
