The Postal Service has reached a place where I have heard a fair variety of covers from their landmark album, Give Up.
Yet Mackin The Destroyer offers something a bit different on his tribute to the album, a covers album he has dubbed Mackin Gives Up.
Take the cover of “We Will Become Silhouettes” which has traces of the electronic soundscapes built on the original but with a more live instrumentation and power pop / punk version of the track. It’s a fun listen and one that does what a good cover should, embracing what makes the original so great, but also delivering something unique at the same time.
