Last month saw Soft Punch, the project of Washington D.C.-based musician Rye Thomas, release his new album, Above Water, out September 15th on Bad Friend Records.
We previously shared “Here / Now” and today we focus on follow-up single and punchy album highlight, “My Head.” The song dives into the always-welcome arena of 90s power pop and indie rock with a heavy garage rock influence that lands with a great deal of confidence.
Speaking on the track, Thomas adds:
Whether it’s migraines or my own thoughts, my head can be a brutal & unpredictable place. Just trying to get through the day can be an absurd challenge. We leaned into that absurdity with the music video. Strange geometric figures and flaming tape machines crowd my living situation, until the song escalates to its noisy conclusion.
