the last optimist is the project of Boston-based singer-songwriter Markus Belanger, who earlier this year returned with his new album, seed water sun.
It’s a record that is emotive but also stems from a place of strong-willed ethereal power. Take no look further than the powerfully titled “Shame You Left Me” a track that captures a haunted Radiohead-like presence atmospherically, while also carrying the torch of great folk minds such as Leonard Cohen and Sun Kil Moon. Just when you think you have it figured out, it brandishes a wicked guitar solo and emerges in a totally new light sonically.
