Rock of Asia is a folk/rock/fusion project orchestrated by a Japanese-born artist, Nikki Matsumoto. The band blends Western instruments like the guitar and violin with Eastern instruments like the koto, shamisen, sho, and erhu.
The group returned earlier this year with their new record, TAMI, one that features the epic introduction of an opening track with the title track and single, “TAMI.” There is a bombastic and 80s nature to the track, which carries itself with the air of some big classic rockers, along with the Eastern influences that welcome in a blend of sonic templates and sounds. It sounds familiar, but not quite delivered in this spirit or sonic realm quite in this way ever before.
