Following a most eventual Day 1 and Day 2 of Newport Folk Festival, we returned to Fort Adams State Park, eager for the finale, one that saw a headlining set from Billy Strings.
Unlike the previous year, there were no swirling rumors of surprise guests, the festival smartly chose to let the artists they handpicked do their thing and be the main focus. It resulted in a festival that let the lineup breathe, and flourish as a result.
We caught some great sets from rising talents such as Madison Cunningham and Remi Wolf, along with a stirring performance from Gregory Alan Isakov, and a throwback performance from legends, Los Lobos & Friends. There was also a hypnotic set from Lana Del Rey, who was an interesting choice for the festival, but one who awed with the sun-soaked atmosphere of the Fort.
It was yet another sublime edition of the festival and we are eager to see what Newport has in store for us come 2024.
