blondfire is the project of Los Angeles singer-songwriter Erica Driscoll, who has won our hearts heavenly with her cover of The Smiths’ classics, “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now.”

The track is given a breezy island-like interpretation that feels like a lush daydream, a much different pace from the original, but one that does exactly what a good cover should and harnesses the original’s DNA but in a way distinctly its own.

Or as she describes it:

Growing up with a Brazilian Mother, I spent summers in the North of Brazil listening to all the classic Bossa Nova artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto. This version incorporates two my loves, Bossa Nova and British bands from the 80’s. I hope you enjoy this breezy rendition.
