Pet Snake is the new solo venue of Liverpool-based artist Evelyn Halls, who released their debut EP, Bathwater, back in May via Dance To The Radio.

“Still Doing The Same” is a standout from the EP, a song described as a “highly emotive reflection on pulling away from destructive people and relationships to protect your own wellbeing.”

It’s a barebones folk performance that feels like you’re sitting alone on the floor with Halls as she pours this confessional from her heart. Lovely and totally raw and intimate, it delivers a swift and impactful devastating punch.

Or as Halls describes it:

“This song really healed me to write. I had struggled to make sense of why a friendship I had when I was younger felt so uneasy and if I had done the right thing by pulling away from this person in order to protect my own wellbeing. I’d always wondered if I’d perhaps had unrealistic standards for what I wanted from a friend and if my hurt was even valid. Fast forward 10 years and in a conversation I was having I learned that this person was “still doing the same”. They hadn’t changed and were leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. In that moment, I felt vindicated in my decision. I went home and wrote this song that night and it flowed out in about 20 minutes.”
