Homeschool (the solo project of musician Tom D’Agustino, formerly of Active Bird Community) has recently returned with their new EP Just Now, which features tracks like the assured single “My Only Enemy.”

A grand 80s slice of synth pop that has a colorful and vibrant anthemic power with some big bright-minded electronic elements that all collide into something larger than life. Although there is a joyous feeling in the air – perfect for summer listening, there is a reflective nature to the track, as D’Agustino details below.

“‘My Only Enemy’ asks questions about why I am the way I am, and why I act the way I do. It’s a self-critical reflection wearing upbeat, dance-pop clothes where I ultimately make a realization about myself and the world. Mainly, no matter who I may blame for things that have happened to me, disappointments, losses, failures – the only real enemy or obstacle between me and an acceptance of myself, is myself. I am the only one who can truly judge what I am capable of, and I too often judge myself unfairly. It’s a reminder that I am worthy of exploring, I am worthy of love, I am worthy of messiness and contradiction, and experimentation. I just need to shake it off and remember that the words I use to describe myself are truly what I can become – for better or worse.”
