Austin, Texas rock trio Being Dead tap into a retro groove on their recently shared single “Muriel’s Big Day Off,” which will appear on their upcoming debut album When Horses Would Run, which will be released on July 14 via Bayonet Records.
Being Dead makes the past sound present again on the single, blending surfy punk guitar work and a lo-fi charm that delivers some garage rock elements with a rather hooky set of vocals, that feels like a blend of La Luz, Thee Oh Sees and Allah-Las – with bouts of jazzy elements and jams.
Or as they put it, “Muriel’s Big Day Off” sounds like “the theme song for some Adult Swim cartoon that comes on at 1AM.”
