Corey Leiter is a singer-songwriter out of Los Angeles who has won our hearts fairly easily with his recently released single, “Lay It Down,” a song that has been a staple in his live set for years and is being released to help raise money for the Los Angeles Food Bank.

It’s a reflective and meditative piece of songwriting that channels the best of the folk genre, while also smartly utilizing space and production flourishes to navigate it toward even greater emotional heights.

Speaking on the track, Leiter details:

I used to live in Echo Park right next to the 101 freeway, and I had a few neighbors that lived under the overpass. Witnessing them, I wanted to know their stories, and writing this song was a way for me to send compassion to them and try to see the world through their eyes as best I could. I know writing a song is not enough, so I’m hoping to utilize the release to raise some money for the LA Food Bank. These reflections also led me to landing a job as a case manager working with unhoused folks in West LA.

The song was recorded to tape in Ryan Pollie’s (of Anti Records fame) home studio in Eagle Rock, CA. It features Spencer Hoffman on electric guitar and lap steel, Jacob Peter on bass, and Aristotle Galanopoulos on drums. I hope it’s comforting for all and reminds us to love our neighbors as best we can.
