Los Angeles-born-and-based singer/songwriter and actress Evangeline will release her debut EP, Fuzzy, on May 19. Yesterday she released its new single, “Hermione”.
It’s a song that splits the difference between a 90s garage-inspired rock sound, with elements of power pop, that remind of artists such as Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy.
Speaking on the track, Evangeline adds:
“This song was an imagined response to an internet troll. I noticed an older man in my comments who would regularly chime in to critiquing my playing and he always called me Hermione— I found it really funny and it made me think, “what if what he doesn’t know is, that’s exactly my kink?” I think deep down the song is about the idea that if ‘hurt people, hurt people’ — would matching their energy with radical understanding end the cycle? David Marinelli produced the song – we wanted it to be simple like early 2000s sleepy garage rock. One of the most fun days I’ve had recording.”
