august for dawn is the New Zealand-based project of Charlie Ryder (of Yumi Zouma), who has made quite the impression with “lift to the fifth floor”, his debut release under the solo moniker and the first of 6-7 singles to be released this year. The song is a song he recorded primarily on acoustic guitar, inspired by the coldest winter he can remember.
There is a haunted enchanting quality to the track which has a dreamy folk arrangement and style of production that feels like a warm moment spent in the cold with someone close to you. While it has elements of Yumi Zouma with certain flourishes, it ultimately carves a path truly uniquely of its own.
