The Dawdler, the Newcastle upon Tyne-based project of singer-songwriter John Edgar, always releases emotionally poignant folk rock, but none quite as affecting as his latest single, “Way Back Home.”

Typically sparse and atmosphere-driven, “Way Back Home” is a personal and heartbreaking confession and insight from his perspective as someone going through an incredibly tough time and disability. Something not all of us can pretend to understand, but through this beautiful and incredibly touching music, we get a glimpse.

Or as he poetically puts it:

It’s only when you suffer loss that you truly appreciate the fact that there’s no going back. All that you have experienced in life is out of reach, moving further and further away, as time rolls on and memories fade. We’re all heading in the same direction, ultimately.

That’s what this song is about. And also, from a personal point of view, as disability and deterioration increase, you not only lose certain physical and mental capacities, you forget what it was like to have them.

Yikes 😬
