Chalk is an Irish four-piece post-punk band based in Belfast that was formed out of film school in 2019. They are preparing for the release of their debut EP thing spring and have given us a taste with the lead single “Static.”
The track is an atmospheric and darkly-tinted moody post-punker with an uneasy tension brewing in the spaces between the blistering guitar work and supercharged vocals. It goes in hard with a blissful sonic set of hard-hitting layers and wall of sound that is overwhelming and soothing somehow at the same time. Channeling elements of bands like Gila Band and Shame, while also carving out a path of their own already.
