Violet Iris is a band from the coastal town of Dana Point, California who have caught my heart and imagination with their impressive single, “Nightmares.”

It’s taken from their self-titled debut album, one that we now shamefully admit we completely slept on. The track captures a smart and soulful indie rock and pop approach that feels very Wolf Alice with a heavenly vocal performance, rather catchy hooks but most importantly, a concrete emotional foundation. There is substance to its brilliant sonic textures.

Speaking on the track, the band adds:

Nightmares is a song explaining the anxiety and heartache forbidden love brings. That can be addiction, an unhealthy relationship with someone or with yourself. Numbing yourself can only go so far, then the nightmare of reality sets in. This can turn into a sweet dream when you become aware of the challenges and accept what is to come, which could have an either light or dark truth. Either way, speaking the truth of how you feel is the first step to healing.
