Paper Lady is an Allston, Massachusetts indie outfit that late last year returned with their new single “Five of Swords”, a song that marks a new direction for them.

A shimmering garage rock and 90s indie sound with flashes of something lusher and dreamier. Expansive in tone, it feels like a glorious combination of Japanese Breakfast, Alvvays, and Snail Mail. Speaking on the meaning of the track the band adds:

This songs meaning is in line with the meaning behind the tarot card that bears the same name. Five of Swords represents a battle well fought, where no one truly came out victorious. This will be Paper Lady’s first release that pushes into a heavier indie rock direction.
