The Dawdler, the terrific project of Newcastle upon Tyne singer-songwriter John Edgar, has been a favorite on these pages for many years now, a quietly prolific presence and one of the best in the bedroom-folk music scene.

Just last year he released a new EP, Pursed Modern, and today he has returned with his latest single, “Never Go Far.” The fragile and heartbreaking track is drenched with a heartbreaking atmosphere that feels spiritual and larger than life.

“Never Go Far” comes from Edgar’s own personal “disability, immobility, and nostalgia.” As he describes below:

Made entirely at home and alone, this song is an honest sketch of my restricted life. A gently picked guitar, whispered vocals, quadruple tracked – aims to convey my solitary experience.

It’s one that Edgar delivers beautifully, as usual.
