Canadian singer-songwriter Riun Garner is preparing for the release of his upcoming debut album, which looks back toward the more acoustic raw, and personal elements of his EP.
He’s since given us two preview singles ahead of its release, “Hasn’t Gotten Easier” and “Should’ve Known”.
“Hasn’t Gotten Easier” is a bare-bones and minimal folk effort that is quite simply about the lingering effects of a breakup and how it just doesn’t get any easier. It’s well produced and features a melancholic tone that could be used wisely in a feature film’s heartbreaking moment.
Or as Gardner details below:
‘Hasn’t Gotten Easier’ is simply about how break ups never get easier. Yet the song also winds us through an emotional narrative that expresses the lament of a sigular relationship that seems harder to let go then most. Sung as if it was a final love letter penned with the hope that maybe one day they will see them again.
“Should’ve Known” coasts along with a sunny deposition and charm with a cautionary look at relationships, especially those who had their DNA’s altered during the isolation brought by the pandemic.
Or as Garner explains:
Should’ve Known tells the story of a couple’s experience being alone together for a long extended period of time similarly to the situation faced by many loved ones during the pandemic and how this has led them to face hardships and strain on their once strong relationship and confront their fears and insecurities of the magic fading.
