Summer is long gone but we can retrace our steps with the warm sun-soaked vibes from Surf Ghost, the recording project of Joe Bastian, who recently released his self-titled debut EP.
“Skate Ghost” is a single and highlight from the EP, which calls to mind the early days of WAVVES, capturing that raw lo-fi tape recording feel. It makes us quite nostalgic for the bands of the blog era that were rising onto the scene during the early days of these pages.
About the song, Bastian adds:
I’ve been obsessed with duality for a while, so this song explores that in various ways: life and death, boredom and fame, 60s surf melodies with harsh distortion. I played and recorded all of the instruments on this track, running all instruments through a Tascam 4-Track Cassette Recorder into Logic Pro. I mixed and mastered the track as well.
