This week on September 21, New York Public Radio celebrated 40 years of “New Sounds” with John Schaefer at Brooklyn Bowl. The event celebrated his incomparable contributions to the NYC music scene and beyond. The annual fundraiser supports all of NYPR’s brands, including WNYC, WQXR, Gothamist and WNYC Studios.
The night featured performances by Brooklyn-based bhangra fusion group Red Baraat and tropical futurism band Combo Chimbita, along with a DJ set by Ira Kaplan & Georgia Hubley of Yo La Tengo. On The Media’s Brooke Gladstone was in attenedance, along with New Sounds’ Caryn Havlik, Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award Winning Composer David Lang, and many more.
