Glasgow’s Blush Club are gearing up for the release of their new EP, Ornamental Ponds. We previously shared its lead single and title track, and today hit back with follow-up single, “Spices.”
The track features a more patient and slightly slowed-down approach, with plenty of that observational lyricism and wit, with a bit of a 90s Brit rock sound that feels like a mix of Art Brut and Sports Team. Speaking on the song, Blush’s Hamish Swanson adds:
It was one of those days when the sun was so luscious but it felt like winter was coming but it was okay. When we wrote that song, I thought the room we were in had a window because it just felt like it was golden Sun. It was a really golden thing. It just emerged out of the day.
During lockdown I wrote a series of letters between an imaginary writer to say to a friend. I was walking around exactly the same streets every day doing the same things. I was asking a lot of questions about dumb things, pointless questions. questions that didn’t even really make sense, That series of letter just seemed to fit as a narrative.
