Night Hawk is a Boston-based duo who describes their music as “nostalgic, dark, romantic, ethereal, a little spooky.”
Based on their single “Sundress”, this is a pretty apt description. The song has a soulful blend of r & b and pop, with a bit of the indie nature of some of The xx’s earlier work. Great vocals and a melancholic feeling of longing lingering in the night air.
Or as they describe it:
She’s here again. Her blonde hair is tousled and dirty, and her shoulders are hunched, but her eyes are warm as she takes her usual place at the corner of the bar. She smiles, and I pretend not to notice. Like I always do. I worry that if I start to talk, I won’t stop before I say something boring… banal. It has to be something new.
It’s too late, and she’s swept up in an animated conversation with one of the regulars. Articulate, urgent, her words breathe life into the old diner. I sweep and serve to the rhythm of her serious, steady voice. Something about her dad, her sister, her travels after she said goodbye to that old derelict town out west. Her stories are from the outside. I wish I had something new…
