Last week saw The Dawdler, the moniker of Newcastle upon Tyne singer-songwriter John Edgar, release his gorgeous new EP, Pursed Modern, via Akira Records. Today we are celebrating its release with two standout efforts from the release: “Josephine” and “Skipping Down the Road.”

“Josephine” has a sunny disposition and quality to it that has an upbeat dream-like warmth that is certain a welcome curtain raiser to the EP. It’s a typically affecting effort from the artist but from a much different point of view.

Then there is “Skipping Down the Road”, a more haunting and devastating track that has a bit of a sinister haze running across it. There is a bit of a Sigur Ros-like eerie-natured atmosphere to the track that casts a cinematic shadow. No surprise to learn that the track was influenced by the Markus Zuzak’s The Book Thief, and Netflix series, Dark, and the heartache of those stories.

These are just two pieces of the much larger puzzle that is Pursed Modern. You can stream the entire EP below and find is available to buy at Bandcamp.
