Los Angeles garage rockers Goon returned last month with their new record Hour Of Green Evening, which was released via démodé recordings.

One of the highlights of the album is “Emily Says”, which was the final single shared ahead of its release. The song, which is cheekily described as “a love song about Olivia Rodrigos & Angel Olsen’s cellist”, Emily Elkin, who is frontman Kenny Becker’s wife.

The track, which also features keys from Alex Fischel of Spoon, taps into that now trademark Goon 90’s-esque rock aesthetic with hints of shoegaze and a droney nature to the guitars that sludges by in the best way possible.

This song is about how her and I meeting each other was the most joyful thing to ever happen to both of us, but also didn’t cure either of us from our anxieties or depression. I wanted to focus on the heart-wringing conflict between those two things.
