Caregiver is the project of Sacramento-based musician Lindsey Bitson. She recently released her debut album Bathing in Yesterday’s Fires, one that saw her channel her “thoughts, reflecting on heartache, substance abuse, and self-discovery.”

“Reason” is a lead single and standout offering from the record, one that showcases all of these heartfelt thoughts and emotions in a way that feels plucked from the 90s rock scene. It’s a song inspired by a relationship that she ended, combining elements of raw songwriting with a loose garage rock anthemic feel, and some smart pop hooks rising above all the fuzzy riffs.

I sabotaged a relationship to avoid being hurt. Such an ironic characteristic, self-sabotage. It creates the exact thing I fear. When we reconnected, it was as if he could see right through me. There was nothing left for us. If I hadn’t been so distant and destructive, maybe things could have worked out differently. We swung outside on hammocks on opposing sides of his porch and it felt like goodbye. That week I wrote Reason.
