Boston indie-folk duo The Ballroom Thieves are close to the release of their new album Clouds, which will be out on July 15 via Nettwerk.
Ahead of its release they recently shared “Shadow” from the album. While it showcases many of the warm faithful folk elements that we have come to expect from the group, there is a pivot to a more polished rock sound with some slight 90s pop elements as well.
Or as they describe it:
This one started as a slow bummer acoustic song about learning to live with depression. But rather than letting the music settle into the sadness of the lyrics, we thought it would be more fun as a sad song dressed up in sunny music. It’s the free-fall feeling of riding around coastal California with the windows down while accepting the inevitability of a life spent struggling with mental illness.
