Erika Wester is a singer-songwriter residing in Los Angeles, California who caught our attention earlier in the year with her song “Novelty”. She has since returned with her gorgeous follow-up “Wanted To Be Like You.”
The track channels classic pop of a different era with a bit of a folk and even slight alt-country spin that give it a timeless and easy-going feeling, one that seems to be the goal for Wester when crafting the song, as she explains below:
I wanted this song to feel breezy and easy to listen to. It’s a bit brighter sounding than the rest of my songs. The lyrics are sort of haunting, and I love putting together the juxtaposition of easy listening mixed with dark lyrics. The song is about putting someone you love on a pedestal, only to realize over time that they are not who they seem.
