Hereafter is a one-man solo project by Pennsylvania native Rob Evraets Jr., with him credit for the music written, recorded, produced, engineering, mixing, and mastering. He has recently shared his third album, This Life Is A Beautiful War, an album of beautiful pieces of music such as the single and standout track, “And Suddenly, We Became Strangers.” The song begins with a glacial ambient opening that slowly but surely expands its wings into something grandiose and emotive.

The obvious comparison is Explosions In The Sky, with the post-rock guitar work that soars alongside the building percussion. It’s an undeniably melancholic expression, one that is effective just as much as it is moving. It takes a heavy turn midway through, one that flirts with a bit of Deafheaven, sans vocals.

Find a bit of insight into the song, from this quote directly from Evraets Jr.:

This song deals with a concept I have forever struggled with. One day you mean something to someone or they mean something to you and then another day, after your actions or their actions, you’re no longer part of one another’s lives, whether it’s a friendship or relationship. This song helps reflect on all the good times and bad times with those who are no longer in your life.
