Washington, D.C.-natives The North Country is preparing for the release of new EP, Born At The Right Time, a “communal album created from afar during the depths of quarantine.” It saw each member of the band compose a song fragment and then pass it on to the next. It build like that bit by bit, until everyone made their own contribution.
Take the lead single and title track “Born At The Right Time”, a track that reminds of some of the work of acts like Broken Social Scene. Gorgeous and patient with a meditative approach that taps into a genuine emotional spectrum with a dreamy artful presence mixed with some more early 2000s indie rock warmth.
On the song Andrew Grossman, singer and guitarist says:
“Part of the fun of this whole project was experimenting with working within a tight schedule, forcing us (and particularly me) not to overthink things. Just do it quick and pass it along. For me, this meant taking on the Allen Ginsberg mantra of “first thought, best thought” when writing lyrics. I even dropped the line in the song. I’m not really sure what the words means, but I can tell you for sure it felt right to say ‘em when I wrote ‘em.”
