British indie rock outfit Beachtape has taken us back to the 90s with their chill as all hell single “Speakn”, their first bit of new music since 2020.
The track feels like a golden throwback to the 90s-era Brit rock with a twinge of psych and surf rock, with a rolling chill vibe and some really awesome guitar work, combined with an effortless hazy vocal performance.
Commenting on the track, vocalist Rory Sear said:
I remember writing this song on New Years eve—I think that inspired the ‘there’s always next year’ line. I guess I was looking back at 2020 and thinking about moving forward, feeling confused at the distance put between friends and family and the strains it had on those relationships.
