It’s been a long time since we got new music from POP ETC – try five years since 2016’s Souvenir. The band has recently announced that their new album is called Over The Moment, which was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by the band, largely at home during quarantine.

With the announcement came our first taste with lead single “Slips Away”, which features a spoken word contribution from Jason Schwartzman.

It’s a meditative and dreamy slice of indie rock and pop that shines with an upbeat nature that still feels emotive and full of melancholy. The band seems fully rejuvenated and full of that same energy that they left us with, yet at the same time, there is definitely a different pep to their step.

About the song, the band’s Chris Chu added:

We all try to hold on to the past. No matter how futile or ridiculous it may seem. Why do we have so much trouble accepting that everything comes to an end? I know I’m still fighting it. Still trying to be a kid. Still trying to hold on to the joy and carefreeness of that time. There’s an energy and life to the past that we keep grasping at, and yet it always slips away. But it’s not just a sad story. There’s real liberation that comes with acceptance. A freedom and richness that we can tap into once we embrace that everything is fleeting. “Slips Away” is about trying to get there.

Find the music video for “Slips Away” posted below, which is directed by Sethinun Jariyavilaskul and features the Thai band STAMP.
