Hartlepool indie-pop trio Mt. Misery will return with their new EP The Time It Takes, the follow-up to their debut album Once Home, No Longer, one of our favorites of the year. It will be released on July 1st via Quiet Crown and PRS Foundation’s Open Fund.

The band has shared the EP’s lead single, “Spinning Top” another warm blend of jangly indie rock with a whistful folk shine that is utterly charming in a very 90s indie rock sort of way. A blend of Real Estate, Whitney and Woods, while also veering into a unique direction very much of its own.

Speaking about the track, Vocalist and guitarist Andrew Smith said:

We tried to make Spinning Top a little more energetic and less restrained than what we’ve done before, not worrying as much about getting the perfect take or doing things the ‘right’ way. I was feeling a bit anxious around the time it was written, maybe amplified by having lots of time to dwell on things across various lockdowns. It doesn’t take much to send me spiralling, which probably comes across in the lyrics. That sort of thing feels a bit daunting to talk about normally, so it’s good to be able to communicate it in a different way.”
