We’d like the make a sincere case that The Dawdler, the project of Newcastle upon Tyne musician John Edgar is one of the great hidden gems in music at the moment.

He’s continued to prove my theory correct with his new single “Get Zen” the latest heartbreaking effort from his upcoming new EP Pursed Modern, due out on July 15th via Akira Records.

The EP is described as a homage, one to his former life as an able-bodied person, as Edgar was diagnosed with PPMS towards the end of 2021.

“Get Zen” continues Edgar’s path towards making sparse yet atmospheric folk songs that feel like tense and heavenly at the same time.

About the song, Edgar honestly shares:

‘Get Zen’ is “a friendly fuck you” to the wellness, quick fix, lifestyle profiteering know-it-alls. You can stick your turmeric capsules, keto diet, cold showers, and yoga. I’m fucked. Give me a drink and a smoke. I know I’m being unfair and bombastic, but hey, I’m upset.
