Last year saw Colorado-based country and folk-rock outfit Westrock return with their new record, Welcome to the River.

Their sound, described as “red dirt country” feels like a take on all the classics of the genre, just molded into a new and modern vision of their own. About the album they add:

Welcome to the River is meant to be stories of people who are happier outside. Whether it is agriculture or recreation, the common theme is friends, adventures, and peace found somewhere in the sun.

A highlight of the album is the centerpiece of sorts, “Quiet Place”. A song that channels elements of folk and country, with distinctive soulful touch and emotional lyricism that touches deep within the soul. It’s familiar yet taps into something so deeply essential and utterly American that its impossible to deny its natural power. You can completely envision this soundtracking a devastating moment in a film or TV show.
