London based collective Folly Group recently released their sophomore EP Human and Kind via NinjaTune imprint Technicolour, which showcases the exciting acts’ genre-bending sound.
Take single and EP highlight “Paying The Price” which navigates the sonic texture of post-punk with an experimental nature that has a grooviness about it as well as astute observational lyrics. This is a sound that captures you all at once in a way that is familiar, yet it’s really operating in a league of its own.
The band’s Sean Harper had this to say about “Paying The Price”
“Paying The Price” loosely documents commuting. Louis wrote the title/hook (“Paying the price / Shame it feels so nice”) and to me it summarised the questions so many London residents have for themselves: “This place is toxic, awful people are everywhere, literally everything feels like a competition, the endless demands the cost of living in this city imposes upon me are making me a more stressed out, confused, paranoid, depressed person. Why do I love it here?”
