Canada’s No Frills first caught our ears last month with their single “Copy Cat” and they have since hit back with the equally winning “Darkhorse.” Both tracks will appear on their upcoming album Downward Dog.

“Darkhorse” taps into a slick blend of 80s indie and synth-pop with an artful groove and a bit of a playful tone that has a bedroom pop sort of charm to it. Think early Mac DeMarco with a bit of Men I Trust and Tops.

Speaking on the track, songwriter Daniel Busheikin wrote:

‘Darkhorse’ was written after I was fired from a café of the same name (oops!) and is about the carrot dangling in front of our collective faces, promising an ultimate material reward that will always elude us. Basically a more pretentious version of ‘work sucks // I know.’
