Gage Maurie is a Portland, Oregon-based artist who last August released a compilation entitled Demos and Songs Vol. 2, which features a collection of songs that he recorded during the month.

One of the highlights is “Hate to Say It” a raw indie rock outing that has a bit of a tape recording feel to it, reminding of some of the earlier work of artists like Ariel Pink, delivery a raw but highly addictive sound that feels pulled from a different era completely. Full of sharp angular guitar work and an offbeat vocal performance that delivers some pretty hooky moments during its chorus.

You can stream “Hate to Say It” now below and stream the entire comp over at Bandcamp.
