This Friday will see New York-based indie-folk singer-songwriter Ava McCoy release her debut album, Moss On The Ceiling. For a taste of what you can expect, look no further than the standout single “Sedona.”

It’s a song that has its heart firmly rooted in the warm hands of classic folk and Americana, with a warm sound that feels as if Phoebe Bridgers was backed up by Big Thief. There’s a lush and dreamy sound to it all, but also with the wonderous lyricism and deliberate arrangements that pack a sincere emotional punch.

About “Sedona”, McCoy adds:

I wrote this song about a trip I took to Sedona with my family when I was nine. We went on a hike, and I walked ahead of everyone, writing a whole short story about a girl who lived in a tree house in my head. She was able to escape her worldly troubles through connecting with nature, which I resonated with at the time. I since have had an ex move to Sedona, which has given this song a new meaning of longing for me.

Stay tuned for the full album this Friday but for now, enjoy a listen to “Sedona” below.
