The Moneygoround’s Dennis Ellsworth originally wrote “Girl in My Head” as a possible song for John Smith’s latest album, The Fray. They wrote it together but it didn’t end up on his record so Ellsworth re-wrote some of the lyrics and when he began his work as The Moneygoround, it became one of their first songs that will make its way on their debut album Cruisin’ and Swingin’ with The Moneygoround, due out this spring.

The track feels like a classic throwback from many angles and genres, from alt-rock, country, folk, and classic rock in general. There’s a genuine curiosity and warmth to it that comes across as totally genuine and wholesome with a natural songwriting wistful charm.

About the song, Ellsworth adds:

This song is a snapshot of the adage: absence makes the heart grow fonder. It’s about longing. Not always as a result of physical space, but as the first verse indicates, sometimes of emotional division. Despite these situations, and no matter what follows, commitment and love are the real winners here. At its core, this is a song about devotion and dedication.
