Former Lives is the dream new wave-influenced project started by Burlington, Vermont-based multi-instrumentalist and designer Sean Joseph Klassen. He taps into the well of classic 80s indie pop on his recently released single “Alderson Loop.”

The track captures a dreamy lush dream-pop sound that recalls acts like The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, just with a heavier synth influence. There is a nostalgic and melancholic feeling running vividly throughout the track, which captures a heartfelt blend of genres that results in something winningly sincere.

About the song, Klassen adds:

An Alderson Loop is a seemingly endless loop in programming where an exit condition is available but inaccessible in the current implementation of the code. This song was inspired by an episode of Mr. Robot and reflects what the songwriter’s life felt like after a traumatic brain injury — not to mention, a pretty apt metaphor for what life is like for all of us in the post-COVID world.
