Norwegian singer-songwriter Simen Mitlid returned with his latest single “DNA” a genre-bending effort from his more folk-themed previous efforts.
The track, which will appear on his new EP, due out this Spring, features the groundwork of a folk song, with more eccentric electronic leaning vocal effects that recalls of acts such as Pop Etc. The “DNA” of a spirited folk sound is still in-tact, just delivered through a more colorful lens.
About the song, Mitlid adds:
It’s hard to recall what DNA is about. I remember writing it with the TV on in the background. I had a writer’s bloc so I was just typing every word I heard on the TV-news. So in the beginning no part of the song made any sense, but slowly the lyrics started turning into something close to a story. Now I just hope I don’t get in a plagiarism conflict with the TV-channel. The track is produced by me and my best friend Hans Olav Settem in our studio in Oslo.
