Sydney-based duo Salarymen have recently hit back with new single “All In Vain,” one that represents a new era for the duo, kicking into some glistening psych-rock elements with that dreamy pop sound that has come so naturally for them.
The track hones in on that sunny melodic sense with some 70s influence from the twang of the guitars to the AM radio dreamy pop vocals – a mix of Tennis, Temples, and Beach House in one delightful package that will be perfect for blaring out of your car when summer returns.
Co-vocalist and bassist Renee de la Motte explains the meaning behind the song, which you can find streaming right after with the music video, which was shot by Todd Stephen Logan.
“All in vain is a frank reflection on how much social media has crept into our lives, and placed pressure on us to look better and be present, all of the time. As a society, it has increased our narcissistic tendencies and driven us to compete with other people. What someone puts out on Instagram might look amazing, but in many cases they can be deeply insecure and unhappy with themselves. These platforms have become a constant force reminding people of what they lack, and this track is an uplifting reminder not to worry about what people think of you on the internet. You’re cool the way you are!”
