SUGARFUNGUS is an indie pop band from Vancouver, Canada formed remotely last year due to the pandemic. They’re preparing for the release of their debut EP Letting Go, Moving Still, which includes the recently shared dreamy sngle “Catch & Release.”
The track was recorded in their home studios during isolation, self-described as a “sad dream-pop jam about a situationship where you find yourself just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and are ultimately force to let go of someone you care about.”
“Catch & Release” finds an effortless catchy dream-pop groove that features an emotive vocal performance and a catchy yet melancholy blend of synth-pop and indie rock that tickles many of our favorite itches of the respective genres. The track is like a mix of Beach House, Memoryhouse, and Young Galaxy.
About the song, the band added:
We wanted to project the heartache of walking home from your last visit with this person. The sputtering rhythm guitar and cascading piano give a sense of coldness and rain – something we are familiar with in Vancouver.
