New York-based singer-songwriter Laura Stevenson recently returned with her self-titled new album, which was released via Don Giovanni Records.
The album comes from a deeply personal place for the songwriter, from both the excitement and difficulties of giving birth to her first child during the pandemic, as well as when a loved one was harmed and nearly closed.
The emotional impac and sentiment is captured on the rather jubilant yet melancholic standout single “Sky Blue, Bad News.” It sounds like the sort of song that could have been mistaken for a long-lost 90’s gem, with some poignant and effective songwriting, and a punchy garage sound with a folk-embedded DNA.
